ALCOSYS developed an Information Technology (IT) roadmap for USDA Veterinary Services that describes the current state of disease surveillance management IT systems and presents a future path towards a national disease and surveillance management data repository that will facilitate database sharing and collaboration between Veterinary Services and its stakeholders and partners. The IT roadmap provides its audience with an understanding of Veterinary Services’ current disease and surveillance management IT system architecture, the rationale for data integration from multiple sources into a single relational database, and provides a single enterprise solution for Veterinary Services import, export and veterinary accreditation functions. The IT roadmap includes strategic initiatives for building or acquiring new IT systems and the technical references necessary for data delivery to Veterinary Services, and provides IT solutions that support the animal disease surveillance and management program. The Veterinary Services IT Roadmap addresses:
-
Tools to determine the current technical state of the Veterinary Services IT system.
-
A technical framework for developing future system architectures and data standards that enhance collaboration, sharing and research.
-
Guidelines on how organizations and information technology resources can communicate mission critical electronic data or information to and from Veterinary Services information systems.
-
Technological alternatives that support moving information and technical systems from their current state to a desired future state.
|
The IT roadmap provided to USDA by ALCOSYS also supports future IT data integration initiatives, including the establishment of a unified database. In addition, the IT roadmap addresses the need for standardized data entry systems that can enhance the effectiveness of animal disease surveillance and management programs.
